I am a senior php developer with 15 years experience. My company develop site using joomla and drupal base on our client want. To me, Drupal is 100 times complicate than Jommla, so the learning curve is countless high. Joomla on the other hand, it is a lot easier to learn, with 50x more extentsions than drupal. In long run, it is no doubt, dupal project will be closed and nobody will use it. Joomla now also has its MVC model to catch the trend. Look at drupal, OMG, its API is terrible and huge! We are not born to learn your API, drupal. Why make everything such complicated!!! Check google trend and see Joomla has 100 more users than Drupal. There are billion reasons for it. http://www.google.com/trends?q=drupal%2C+joomla&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

This is a fantastic comparison. I wrote a similar article some time ago on our company blog and I'm interested in doing another in the future that includes the recent versions Drupal, Joomla as well as Wordpress. Are you planning to do a follow-up to this article? If so, I'll gladly reference it.

In my opinion the comparison is ok, Joomla is great! except for security, i'am a PHP programmer but learning Drupal takes a lot of time i decided not to use it, more easy is to create your own CMS from zero or near of zero that using Drupal. Long life to Joomla.! Gustavo

About the user subscription, in Drupal you can use lm_paypal to utilize paypal user subscription instead of ubercart my 2 cents about drupal vs joomla is both is good CMS and one need to see one needs before choosing which one is the most suitable for them to use. for small to medium site with low hits and the webmaster doesn't have high technical skill, it is better to have joomla as its cms. For medium to large site with high hits and the webmaster is tech savvy it is recommended to use drupal instead of joomla. One more point to consider, if you are planning to use drupal with tons of module installed, share hosting is not an option, better grab VPS hosting or dedicated hosting before complaining drupal is slow. that is my opinion about the joomla vs drupal, other may see it differently cheers

Drupal * Rock solid & high quality platform * Real multi-site-feature (only one installation for several sites) * Any Kind of user groups & user permissions, OpenId compliant in Version 6 * Can run membership and community sites, not only CMS etc * Powerful templating system. Any XHTML or CSS template can be easily converted to Drupal. * Drupal needs a little time investment to realize all the huge possibilities of Drupal http://www.electricians4u.com.au Joomla * If you are not techy its good to start * Easy install & setup with your mouse * Easy learning curve * Cannot integrate other scripts etc. to your site * Generally you cannot create high-end sites, without investing huge amount * No SEO out of the box, URLs are not search engine friendly. * Server resources utilization is more compared to drupal

I've been working with websites for years and when I came to Joomla I was impressed but then it kept just having errors for no reason?! So I moved to Drupal which I found much easier to set up but a nightmare to theme. Then I went to some commercial solutions including Expression Engine. However after 4 years or going between them overall Drupal is the best one because it allows way more flexibility but also lots of modules that can be easily applied to all the content on your site.
