Actually, two things you can do that do not require a 3rd party extension: 1- Enable seo rewrite. It has some pretty decent security rules. 2- Enable the ftp uploading, and make everything not public-writable. Other than that, I would go for server wide solutions (mod_security, php and apache hardening, etc)

Ok well the site cleanup is all in and it does not look like the server has sent out any more phishing emails... They even installed it on all my sub joomla installs and it all seems to sync between the sub sites, quite impressed so far. The interface looks sweet and is quite informative... the only real way to test these things is over time though I suppose. On the plus side the software from secure live reports all the hacking attempts across their network and blocks offenders on other sites... that for me is well worth the extra costs. If RSFirewall want to give me a copy to test on another site that I run then I will run them side by side and report if any of the sites get hacked and also a detailed report as to the usability and functionality of both packages.

Well I'm speaking to securelive guys now for a security overall on my home page. We had an issue on 1.5.17 My site was hacked before the security update was announced. Either that or I missed it. I'm going for the joomla cleanup service and buying the software package from them. Will keep you all posted on how I find it.

BTW, if we make such bad software, it's kind of weird that you're a client of ours - you've bought RSForm! Pro and RSTickets!. And you've bought them for your own website, ironic. SecureLive! is on the edge of GPL freedom - it relies on your server to function. So, if anything happens to that, ALL of your customers are, pardon the language, screwed. The fact that we develop several components has nothing to do with the quality of security RSFirewall! offers. We're developing other extensions because we're actually a team of developers and we can afford it. Have a nice day.

Jeff, We're actually very aware of your tactics of diminishing RSFirewall! - pages on your website telling people are getting hacked with RSFirewall!, comments left on blogs/forums about our product, reviewing on JED (thankfully we've managed to remove that one). We didn't want to respond to such tactics because it's clear that you are afraid of competition. The fact that you say that "customers are continuing to be hacked, after install" is nothing more than words thrown out there. Can you tell me an EXACT situation and the method of attack ? Since we do have customers who are getting hacked, but that's because they have stolen FTP passwords (through viruses on their own computer, a well-spreaded problem nowadays, remember Gumblar). Does your software protect against that ? I guess not, because no other software in the world does it. I'm not sure how you can evaluate RSFirewall! without taking the time to download, install and test the component.

What I have found out RS Firewall customers are continuing to be hacked, after install. There is no REAL time update scan terms, so if a hacker make a new way to access your site, they would have to download a new version of RS. SL is 100% up-to-date all of the time. If a Website with SL installed on it is attempted to be hacked then all other websites with SL on it are automatically blocked. RS is a little more then just a firewall which you can be downloaded for free. SL uses real time scanning and artificial intelligence to determine if the attack is real or not. Imagine your at the airport before you get on the plane you have to go through a metal detector. If the metal detector alarms, then you have to get rescanned. That's a similar process on how SL works. SL has over 15 million blocks, over 15,000 bad websites have been shut down, and around 50 prosecutions currently active. SL goes after the hackers. Finally SL ONLY does security, not 15 other extensions to make more money.

It's so obvious that somebody who promotes SecureLive would recommend SecureLive. I don't even want to go into detail about your tactics of promotion because we would end up in a non-ending conversation. Anyone can actually point out why RSFirewall! is not a good component ? If there's something we've overlooked we would be very glad to improve it. I agree with Brian's first comment on this one - a component will never keep you 100% protected... but it will definitely be a plus.
