Great quote from Brian Clark of Copyblogger Print
Sunday, 04 November 2007

Great quote from Brian Clark of Copyblogger fame about how to become an expert:

"I was chatting with a friend about this topic recently, and we both came up with same initial answer about becoming an expert—read books ... most people don’t read and many of those who do swamp themselves with RSS news feeds instead of the foundational knowledge contained in books."

RSS Feeds are like the news ... interesting for keeping up with current events but completely lacking when it comes to building knowledge of value. I can honestly say I learnt more about Google Analytics from reading one $10 book over the weekend than from months of analytics blogs. More about that tomorrow ... ;)

Tim Ferris had a similar suggestion about becoming an expert in his book 4 Hour Work Week. An no, I didn't read it. I got the audio version as my Audible selection.

As for the analytics, which $10 book? Best I've seen is Avinash Kaushik's and I paid more that $10. Well worth full price though.

Hi Anne

Thats a funny quote in itself smilies/smiley.gif

Funny also that you mention the other book - I just ordered Avinash Kaushik's book today. Is it worth the read?

Its Google Analytics Short Cuts from O'Reilly: http://www.gashortcut.com/. The tips are mostly pretty advanced but theres lots of good ideas that can be extracted for even basic sites (unfortunately you have to do most doing the initial setup)

I'd be interested to learn about these Google Analytic ebooks. Please let us know Steve after you've read them Avinash Kaushik's book which one you'd recommend. I've been running analytics for quite a while now, but feel I could get more out of it than I am doing.
