sh404SEF
sh404SEF, the 500lb gorilla of Joomla SEO
I had the pleasure of testing out the latest version of sh404SEF over the weekend. Yannick just keeps making his component better and better.

This latest version is 1.2.4x although the difference between Yannick really needs to get a new release numbering system. The improvements between 1.2.4a and 1.2.4x is greater than most developers manage between 0.1 and 10.0. It really is becoming the 800 pound gorilla of SEF tools.

The new version isn't available yet, but here's a sneak peak at the upcoming improvements:

What's new in this version?

  • You can replace any string from inside the component (a feature previously available inside SEF Advance). We currently use that effect here on Alledia, replacing kb with faq and neoreferences with portfolio.
  • Added a whole new security layer. The SEF code is pretty much the first thing to be loaded up when Joomla starts and so SEF components are in a very good position to check incoming requests and reject any suspicious ones.
  • Improved compatibility with Joomfish.
  • Proven compatibility with Mambo 4.6.2.

Updated News on SerrBizSEF

SerrBizSEFSerrBizSEF is the newest SEF component and is currently being used by several well-visited Joomla sites. Michael has announced that the component is now free to download so I'd certainly recommend heading over to test it out. Look for a full review of SerrBizSEF later this week.

Gorilla ?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for reviewing new version, before its even out of the box. I suppose I have to look up the full meaning of this 500pounds gorilla. Sounds a bit M$ to me ??
Funny thing is that the replacement function has always been there. I actually started shCustomtags as a replacement module rather than custom tags module, at the end of 2006.
You're probably the only one using it !

Hi Yannick

Its a complement, really smilies/wink.gif

The Urban Dictionary actually tells me it should be a 800lb gorilla:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=800-pound gorilla

I'm using sh404Sef on about 80% of clients sites now and that % goes up every week.

Have you tested the new version with VM 1.1 beta?
Best SEF Component at this moment

Steve, just like you I turning several sites from OpenSEF to sh404SEF.
It is simpel, stable and works great!

I recently found that it works great with IIS as well, there are several choices in the Configuration that makes it a great component.

I am looking forward to your review of SerrBizSEF to see if you come to the same conclusions... (not published yet, I need to do some further testing)

Pathos,
would be extremely useful if you could publish here how to setup the Isapi Rewrite to work with sh404SEF on IIS.
I would really appreciate that!!!
Laszlo
