New Version of sh404SEF Print
Tuesday, 17 July 2007

Joomla SEF URLsOf all the Search Engine Friendly URL components released under the GPL, sh404SEF is the most active project. Yannick Gaultier has taken the old 404SEF codebase and added a host of new and improved features. The latest update is no exception:

New Features in Version 1.2.4.s

  • The ability to create SEF URLs without .htaccess or mod_rewrite.
  • Compatibility with MosTree, MyBlog and Docman. sh404SEF works with sef_ext.php designed for both SEF Advance and Open SEF, which means it works with more extensions that any of the alternatives.
  • Better handling of duplicate URLs. Previously it just grabbed the first one, which meant you had the load the correct page immediately after installation, otherwise it might grab the wrong URL.
  • Integration with Yannick's other module: shCustomTags. For those that haven't used it, consider it to be a simplified, non-hack version of the SEF Patch from Joomlatwork.com.

Excellent tool!

I have recently used this tool on a couple of projects, and I have to say it is excellent. I highly recommend it.
Very disappointed

My previous experience with SEF was with OpenSEF and Joomlatwork SEF patch (free version).

Since OpenSEF is doa (I read about the new version so may give that a try) I tried to find a suitable replacement.

Based on the reviews and your recommendation, I tried sh404SEF.

I've installed this component and let it run.

It didn't recognize jcalpro and chronoform. The Module only allows one time adjustment and not per content.

So I was disappointed and uninstalled it.

Sorry it did not work for you

Hi Judy,

As said, I am sorry you could not make it work for you. Regarding jcalpro and chronoform there are no native plugins for them. But as sh404SEF can use sef extensions designed for Opensef or Sef Advanced, if it works with others, it works with sh404SEF. Or put it the other way around, if you can't find a sef_ext file to make jcalpro and chronoform work with sh404SEF, it won't work with any other (with the possible exception of JPromoter, which uses a different format).
As for your comment
The Module only allows one time adjustment and not per content.
. I am not sure I understand what you mean. Each individual URL can be customized manually, even for unsupported component like jcalpro or Chronoform. If you are talking about Title and meta tags, they can as well be customized manually and individually, for each URL (SEF or non-sef).
Best regards
