JoomlaBamboo and Mootools in Joomla Print
Tuesday, 13 November 2007

JoomlaBambooBack at the beginning of 2007, Johan Janssens announced that Joomla 1.5 will include a Mootools script library. Mootools is a Javascript framework that is lightweight enough to be used for lots of clean, quick Flash-style effects.

A lot of people are starting to take advantage of Mootools, not only in 1.5 but also in 1.0. Anthony Olsen from Joomla Bamboo is foremost among the. He has just redesigned and relaunched joomlabamboo.com so it seems a good time to point out some of the great work he's doing.

Joomla Bamboo's Best Mootools Work

Originally Anthony was working on several Mootools mambots and modules, but lately he's started to integrate the scripts into his template designs - not just for effect, but for core functionality:

The Future for Mootools in Joomla

There are more great Mootools templates out there such as Joomla OS from Beauty in Design. Are there are other examples of Mootools in Joomla that we've missed? Let us know in the comments.

I've enjoyed how YooTheme.com use mootools... Particularly like the reflection.js mootool option, so all you need to do is add the class "reflected" in the image tag.

Thanks for that tip David. Yootheme's latest templates really seem to be going down the luxurious / stylish route. The demo for the latest design (Loom) is full of mootools and heavy design elements. Really pretty impressive.

Yeah, I have become increasingly impressed by YooThemes templates. However I'm put off by the fact that the support is apparently not up to RocketThemes... Saying that though, I have not been impressed with the past couple of themes from RocketTheme. Plus the fact so many people use RocketTheme, if you choose them you run the risk of just being another RocketThemed site!

Choosing a template to go with is actually a hard decision, I still haven't found one that matches my needs, and I'm just worried that in the end the time spent "adapting" a template that I download will be as long as it would have taken building it from a blank template!!!
Trying to figure it all out

What I"m having problems with, is how to get the mootools based stuff to WORK! Am I going to have to go to mootools website and download their code? And if so, where, in Joomla do I install it, and how?
