Joomla Templates Influence Drupal and Wordpress Print
Wednesday, 03 October 2007

Lets be honest, the variety, quality and low cost of Joomla templates far outshines most other CMSs. More than anything else, its the reason I hear from people when they decide on Joomla.

No surprise then that Joomla's templates are being imitated:

Wordpress: RevolutionTheme.com. $59.99 for the template.

Drupal: Roopletheme.com. Apparently they initially intended to sell these templates but have since decided to offer them for free. Take a close look and you'll notice:

  • The very Joomlaish block positions, User1, User 2, User 3 etc.

  • The demo is directly modeled after Joomla template clubs.

  • Their templates actually make it easy to use dropdown menus in Drupal. That has long been major Drupal design weakness.

  • The similarity of LiteJazz to Rockettheme.com's Colormatic template.

I'm sure it won't be long before monthly template clubs are available for both Drupal and Wordpress.

Joomla Rules

That makes sense. If the template clubs are designing the templates for Joomla, why not design it for Drupal and Wordpress as well. Generate more money off your website! That makes sense!

And it's mind-blowing to see how many new template clubs are offering templates for Joomla. The more the merrier I say, but it comes down to one thing at the end of the day....SUPPORT! I am a member at JoomlArt and the support from them or the members are phenomenal!

So make sure when you join their club that the template are updated often and that support is available!

Rockettheme talked about doing this a year a go but they have too much work.

I am trying to develop websites with wordpress on the homepage but have the rest be joomla site... Even if I have to hardcode the joomla navigation on the wordpress navigation...

Could always have wordpress on another subfolder, but blog will have the most new content and be of most importance...

Hi Louis

I definitely agree - taking a look a customer support forums is a great way to judge support from a template club. Many unanswered posts ... not worth subscribing.

Hi Boris

Unfortunately, up until recently it was possible to use a Wordpress integration with Joomla and make that your homepage. It may still be possible to find a copy of OpenWP.

My mistake OpenWP has been withdrawn alongside OpenSEF unfortunately.

Thanks for the great tip Hummerbie.

BTW ... Johann has a blog component in the works for 1.5 called Blogman: http://www.joomlablogman.org

YEP OpenWP is shut down, but now MojoBlog is in development and a stable Beta. The hard working developers are working on SEO friendly URLs too! But we must be patient..

Wordpress websites to good in search engine results because of those keywords in URLs, categories, tags, page titles, headlines..

I've seen some monthly template clubs that included wordpress themes - they tended to be very adsense oriented though. But few WP themes change the look all that much, so it's refreshing to see some Joomla-like ones (I have some blogs in WP just because of some of the plugins I have for them already - but Joomla wins hands down in the looks department!)

Don't know if you guys know the site http://blogoscoped.com/? I visit daily there, but anyway, Philipp uses Wordpress and it looks good and is really accesible. Have to say though Wordpress sites always look pretty similar!
