Burger King's Tasty Joomla Site

Written by Steve Burge

Burger King JoomlaAlright, I'm obssessed - I love seeing Joomla used for large mainstream sites.

Here's a tasty Burger King promotion called BKHotKicks.com. It used the "Hot or Not" extension for people to vote on their favorite sneakers. The site was done for a 6 week-long competition and has not been taken offline.

Hat tip to Steven. See the full list of Joomla sites for major companies here. Feel free to e-mail with any sites you see to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

What the heck are they using for SEF? If you hover you can see the non-sef links. Also, interesting that they went with 1.0.x

I can't see how you can tell that the Burger King promotion site is Joomla.
I can see the others but how can you see this one ?

Hi Eddie

1) Inside information
2) The URL format

Hey Kyle - that is odd isn't it? Maybe on old version of OpenSEF.

2 easy ways to tell a site's 1.0.x:
1)template_css.css (it's template.css in 1.5)
2)got to /administrator site :)

@Steve
Maybe so, I only used OpenSEF on 1 site and can't even remember those days :D

Emir, you're right. It is such an old version, I don't even know how they could their hand on it. It still has the Joomfish module in it, that was dropped more than a year ago. Steve, they need your advices : they hardcoded the non-sef links in their menus!

Eddie Truman: Some web producers also forget to make a favicon of their own...

Nice work, Steven! Always good to see some of the "big boys" using Joomla.

A nice little trick for seeing if sites are built in joomla or not is sticking on ?tp=1 on the end of the index. That will show all the joomla module positions - and often exposes if its joomla or not
