Joomla 1.5 Release Candidate 3 Out Now Print
Friday, 05 October 2007

Joomla! 1.5 RC3 (codename: Takriban) is now available for download and a stable version is "very close".

It's been 10 weeks since Release Candidate 1 and five weeks since Release Candidate 2. That maybe a good guide to when we can expect the stable version (fingers crossed!).

The SEO is getting better with each version and hopefully the stable version will feature even more improvements.

Overall, if you're serious about your sites SEO, I'd recommend patience when it comes to upgrading because quite a few important features are still lacking (unique page titles and SEF URL automapping being the two most important) but I've no doubt that they're coming soon, either in the core or via plugins.

This is great news! I will download it and upgrade from RC2 that I'm currently running.

Hey what do you meanabout SEF URLs and unique title page? This option was built in RC2! I'm sure as I'm currently using it on a site I'm making!!! :-)

Thanks for the news of the update!

From what can be seen on the joomla-devel group, there is still a lot happening in the core. Also the devs were talking about an RC4 not too long ago.

We'll have to see. I must admit I'm much more eager to know if and when a 1.0.x bugfix release will be released.

Kind regards,
Zorro

Hi David

SEF URLs are in place, but automapping means providing a 301 redirect from non-SEF URLs to SEF URLs. It stops Google indexing both and causing duplicate content.

Unique HTML titles (as distinct) from just page titles need a plugin currently (Alias for PageTitle Plugin) but it disrupts the ability to set the URL.

Hi Steve,

I updated to RC3 and it seems good. Hey I appreciate you exlpaining about automapping and unique page titles. From what I understand then, does that mean that if I have SEF URLS enabled, I will have two copies of the file online, the SEF one and the long 72837&=index.php323 type one?

Thanks for your help!

Hi David

Take a peak here:
http://www.alledia.com/blog/joomla-urls/what-is-automapping?/
http://www.alledia.com/blog/joomla-urls/automapping-and-duplicate-content/

The database will store both, but the index.php URL will be 301'd to the SEF URL.

For example, the real URL for http://www.alledia.com/blog/ is http://www.alledia.com/ index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=8&Itemid=10 but its only possible for the first one to be indexed.
