Integrating Magento and Joomla Using MageBridge
Written by Steve Burge

Magento and JoomlaWe had a great presentation at the Atlanta Joomla Users Group last night. Paul from http://netproffitt.com went over the integration possibilities with Joomla and Magento, a very powerful open source shopping cart.

Suffice it to say that Magento is miles ahead of Virtuemart in at least three areas:

  • Features
  • Complexity
  • Expense

If you're looking for a very simple shopping cart with Joomla, Magento isn't it but RokQuickCart is a good option. Paul's presentation is embedded below.

I had a play with magento at a customers request once
Never again. the styling is a nightmare. If your used to only using joomla then I think you will struggle with magento.

Another problem I had in the end is the update methods that required you to empty your shop and install from scratch everytime there was an update.

Don't know if its like that now as this was over a year ago.

Put me off from using it after that! Long live virtuemart!

That was my first reaction also, last night :-)

Magento seemed all kinds of impressive, but all kinds of complex too.

Just recently I was looking for more info on integrating Joomla and Magento. The timing of this post was perfect. Thanks! I look forward to experimenting with MageBridge in the near future.

I'm using MageBridge to connect Magento with Joomla for the ticketsale of the Dutch Joomladays. When using MageBridge you can stick to your Joomla theming... no struggle with Magento theming.

We've been looking for a reliable cart to use in conjunction with Joomla for some time now.

VIrtueMart and iJoomla DIgistore both had serious issues, so maybe we'll give Magento a shot. Even if it's somewhat complex, if it's reliable and we can count on decent support then it coul dbe the ticket.

Great presentation.

Sorry I misread... Virtuemart, is a good system, you may need to work out a few kinks but I use it on a site that gets a lot of hits... the thing with Vm is that there is soooo many extensions available for it. couple it with CSVI and you have a very powerful system.

Hey Steve
Any specific reasons why JFusion, a definite leader in Magento-Joomla! integration was kept out of the entire test and analysis?

J!Mint was knocked around and its problems have been documented well. Possible sabotage? :P

Cheers
Imran
