Lots of us in Seattle use Joomla, but 1) this is the first time I heard about this and 2) there's a lot of programming talent here that may have less interest in beginner level training.

Thanks Mason - it was a slightly cheeky post ;-)

For those of you in Seattle, Mason runs the local user group. Lots of upcoming events: joomlaseattle.org/events?start=15

Well, if your class was April 30th, I'd be right in, but I'm in Arizona, returning to Seattle area (Maple Valley) April 20th. I have built three websites using Joomla, my first websits. One for a residential community, one for a quilting club, and one for my family genealogy site, personal. So I have my feet wet, but am still very much a beginner. If you have another class when I'm in town (March - November), I will sign up.

Hey Roger - sure we hope to back in Seattle in another three months. The closest and best thing to you in Arizona is probably Joomla Day Las Vegas at the beginning of April. We're running the same beginners class and then all of Joomla's main developers come to town:

I lived most of my life on the east coast and attended Linux user group and training classes. Here in the Seattle area I noticed, from casual contact and observation, that maybe Microsoft's influence on the local culture slows down the acceptance of open source solutions. Joomla! gets accepted as an excellent choice for a CMS solution when presented, but I think that happens on a very one by one basis.
Could be timing too, I mean everyone here is in tail end of the rainy season past six months. The smart ones catch up on some sun in Arizona, the rest of us are looking forward to spring.

Hi Rob - that's a really interesting way to look at it.

It would be like Detroit promoting mass transit or Idaho promoting rice.

I have been involved with website marketing for around 7 years. I have always had a webmaster do the nuts and bolts of my sites. With the economy the way it is I took on the challenge of learning development about 6 mos ago starting with some xhtml and css classes at a local college. I was familiar with Joomla as I own one Joomla site now, two in progress. I just got back from Hawaii and being the capitalistic pig I am I took on a project to build a site for a hotel over there!!!I was honest and told them it may take some time. While in school for html I was also reading every book I could get my hands on concerning Joomla with very little making much sense. I am into this first project 1 week and it is coming along just fine with everything making sense now!! I am enroled in the Seattle class on the 30th of March 2009 and am very excited about attending. I wish I had done this major jump many years ago. Oh I got carried away rambling on I am located in Longview Washington, not too far from Seattle.
