The main goal of the redesign was simply to place the freshest content right on the homepage. Thanks to Chris from JoomlaJunkie for the inspiration: "Your Homepage Should be The Application!" by Aytekin Tank:
"The common wisdom supposed to say a homepage should give some introduction. It is supposed to talk about what is the service is all about, why do you need it, how great it is. Well, I don’t think there is much truth about this assumption. In fact, I think this is one of the biggest misunderstandings about the web users ...
If your main landing page is your homepage, why don’t you make things as easy to as possible for them. In fact, give them the meat. Turn your homepage into your application ... If you are a content site, give them the most popular and recent content."

Now that you offer many more services, it just makes sense to redesign the homepage as you have done. My "props" to you Steve for seeing the need. Nicely done.
